What do you reckon to this 3 band bill carry on then? Hardly anybody has just an opener and headliner anymore. Any more than 2 acts should constitute a "festival". The headliner should do the middle spot because attention spans are way on the slide before the last act comes on these days. Hanging about is pish. At my late stage in these life proceedings I don't want to be standing like i'm waiting for a bus. This is especially annoying when the band or act in question has entirely nothing in common with the main attraction. Whilst I applaud the fact that The Strokes took Stereototal on tour a while back, what could they think that their boneheided following would make of something so outright great. Their reception had to be hostile because they're like oil and water. I like the idea of 10 - 20 minute sets too. How many time have you seen something recently that just doesn't cut it over that? Too fucking often in my case mateys. So let's hear what you think, let's use this comments facility? Life is short and filled with stuff as the great bard Lux of Interior said. So let's cut to the chase. Always.

Jeez, we're all gettin' old! With the advent of bills like the supports for the DKT-MC5 shindiggery in London on Wednesday - i.e. one OK-ish support band, plus two unexpected and unannounced combos who are, as Big L would say, "pish" - I'd have to say that tings is gettin' pretty bad.

As the UK touring circuit becomes ever more rigigdly based around a handful of big promoters / venue owners (that is, if you ain't playing a university or somewhere that holds less than 200), it's inevitable that these scumbags are gonna fill up bills with anyone who's already on tour thru their venues, or is plain willing to do it for as little cash as possible.

Dunno about in your neck o'the woods, but the going rate for playing support at London's medium-sized venues has remained static at around £50 (or less!) for over a decade ... Despite the hike in ticket prices and bar bills (not to mention the slow creep of that Carling shite!) ... I've seen some great but unlikely double-headers (Flaming Lips and Teenage Fanclub spring to mind, but that was a few years ago) ... I don't think many big promoters / record company people know enuff to book like with like, or put together a decent bill, and that's the rub ...

However, despite the booking of the "pish" Archie Bronson Outfit as openers, the Beatings / Detroit Cobras bash at London ULU on September 8th will be a great example of a good 1,2 onstage punch-out!

See ya there!
