Every time I come to this site, I get a pop up to RedNova. org, some sort of healthcare site. What is going on?

Thanks for pointing that out, wasn't aware of that. Did some research into this and came up with the following:

"Nedstat Basic provided web-site counters that non-professional webpages could use to count their visits. It was free. And it grew big. Millions of free counters must have been in use worldwide.
Professional sites (that had some budget to spend, and did not want their counter to be visible to the public) opted for Nedstat-Pro: the paid professional version.
It was Nedstat Basic that made Nedstat pro known and consequently also very big.

Recently, Nedstat Basic became Webstats4U. And shortly after, visitors of pages with the Nedstat Logo Avoid this-AdWare!! on it began experiencing annoying popups with ads, from domains like 'ilead.itrack.it' and so on. Many users must have thought they were infected with some spyware shit or something like that.
In some statements, Webstats4U claimed that the free counter became to expensive so this form of popup advertising became necessary. Unbelievable. Who can think of something like that? Where have they been for the last few years???

The Internet community is fighting bitter wars agains unwanted advertising, installing loads of popup blockers, frequently screening their PC's with spy- ad- and malware scanners, trying to stop spam...and they come up with THIS!
There is no reason that can explain this, except one: they want to get rid of the non-paying customers. It must've become to expensive to serve all these free counters.
But couldn't they just have told us?

The Nedstat Pro (paid counter) department grew BIG because of the goodwill from the Basic (free) counters. And now they're big, they don't need the non-paying customers any more. so let's dump'em, right?

Maybe we should reverse the process. If creating goodwill made them big, doing bad things like this could kill them likewise.
So if you're using a Nedstat Basic counter on your page, remove it! Replace it with one of the better free alternatives that can be found.
And maybe, if your company is looking for a web-counter service: advise against Nedstat. That should teach them!
"

I'll check with the rest of the NBT staff and see if we should drop the netstad thingy.

J, let's bounce the nedstadt thing. I haven't encountered this pop up myself but Tom Rafferty sent me a message about it earlier today also. Ah for the days of paper and envelopes and being able to seel copies of a printed mag...

Er, make that "sell"...

Ah, on-line board meetings, you have no idea how "current" you are...

Deep-sixed the netstad counter, so that 'll hopefully keep our customers happy...

It is gone now. Thanks.

Great site by the way.

Hi Jeroen.
Drop Nedstat, check Statcounter. It's a far better alternative for page counting, just as easy, more options, and also free.

Bye
