This week’s word, in terms of a rise to prominence in news reportage is radicalization. It’s been used to describe the indoctrination and resultant state that the Jihadsters which caused the carnage in London existed in. Seemingly an advanced discontent involving the belief that they’re bound for paradise in accepting a mission to strike for their twisted cause. I sincerely hope that the actuality of what they achieve is a constant replay of the exact moment of detonation and after a several millennia rerun of that will be topped up with slow-roasting on a burny fire just to underpin the level of their gullibility. The question of retaliation and Muslim people being targeted for revenge seems to me as if it’s getting stoked by the media. Anybody with any sense knows that Muslim people have no more or less number of arseholes, sorry, misguided souls, among their number than any other persuasion. Of course they shouldn’t be bloody "targeted". I’d hope that most people didn’t have to be reminded of that on heavy rotation.

So how do we curtail the rise of the sickness that brought suicide bombs to the UK? It’s a difficult one. The ideology of such individuals knows no reason and there’s yer line in the sand right there. The authorities are wondering how they/we/whoever can “channel their frustrations away from violence”. The answer in the short to medium term is you sodding can’t. However many of us will be offed in the time that it’ll take to rid the planet of this vermin is anybody’s guess but bloody turning on one another won’t solve it.

Other countries have had to deal with higher body counts and events like this on a daily basis. Their citizens are resilient and defiant too. However, however much bug spray or powder you put down, some of the bastards will beat it. Ditto for this type of infestation.

You're kidding, right?

The chaos, destruction and death unleased on London last week absolutely PALES in comparison ot what the UK--at the behest of the US--has aided and abetted in Iraq. Just because the powers that be decide to call the maybe-as-many-as-100,000 innocent-Iraqi's-killed "collateral damage." doesn't make it anything other than terrorism (the violent targeting of non-combatants).

The so-called horror in London last week could also be called "any Wednesday in Iraq."

If you don't want to categorize Muslims why do you refer to them in your ill-conceived screed as "these people" and "those people."

What you see as misguided lunatics searching for an unattainable Nirvana, millions in the Muslim world see as martyred heroes. What are you gonna do about that?

UK out of Iraq NOW is a step in the right direction.

Kidding about what? I take the point abot referring to Muslims as "these people" and have addressed that. As far as my ill-conceived screed goes, it's my tuppence worth. I'm certainly not condoning what the war-mongers are doing in Iraq. One faction's "misguided lunatics" are another's "martyred heroes", there's a surprise. What am I or is anybody gonna (be able) do about that? I doubt that anything will be able to be done for several generations at least. My ill-conceived screed is a reaction to the constant stream of consolation by the media as to the whys and wherefores. Excuses by any other name. "These people" are, as far as I'm concerned, worthy of the same consideration as everybody else, including being referred to as "these people". That's not categorization, that's inclusion.

These people/those people is not inclusion by any measure unless you are "including" them for the beating death in UK a couple of days ago of a Pakistani or the targeting of "those people" by British football hooligans, neo-Nazis, etc.

As to media rationalization: The US media provided the reading public w/ a (false) rationalization to go to war in the first place (Judith Miller in NY Times, Fox News, etc.). Why is the US in Iraq? Why is the UK?

But there we are and you can expect plenty of increasingly violent blowback from far more than "radical Jihadsters" (as more and more Muslims become more and more pissed off) as long as the Coalition (soon to be the Coalition of 2) maintains its charnel house in Iraq.

I find it VALUABLE that the media--or whoever--foreground the (admittedly faulty) reasoning of the "Jihadsters." We should not mistake reasoning for excuses, but we should definitely try and understand how the "other side" is living and dying and why THEY think this is.

I'm not clear on what you mean about the "including" thing. I'm including them because they should be "included. With regard to Muslims being targetted by Neo-nazis or football hooligans, that's a whole other can of worms.

That the US/UK have bitten off more than they considered chewing in Iraq is blatantly obvious even to them. However, Bush and Blair presumably don't want to admit they were wrong. I'm not sure they know what they want.

I have no faith at all in the people who represent us and can't see them seeing sense anytime soon. "Excuses" are like "statistics", I'm not sure there's room for "reason" in how such material is used. Not that I can see or hear at the minute. Under such circumstances how do we get any rational picture of how the Iraqi people feel? Or why Muslims are pissed off? Or indeed any glimpse of how they think that their message could be presented to the people in the West that they supposedly "hate". While the news is reporting that "these fanatics want to impose their beliefs on the West", what chance has anybody got of restoring any kind of constructive dialogue?

That the forces should get out of Iraq is a given. But the powder keg is way bigger than just that and I'm not sure that the fuse can ever be extinguished.

Muslims are "pissed off" because the US and Uk have provided them w/ plenty of evidence that the two countries are most definitely aspiring to Empire, and if you think the Jihadists have a sick ideology, well then . . .

There are plenty of alternative--more truthful--media that will inform you, mostly accurately, about how most Iraqis feel and think (I'll give you a hint: they are not supportive of the coaltion's puppet gov't).

Lindsay Hutton said...

Aspiring? Empire = Real estate to them under the weak smokescreen that they're doing Iraq a favour.
I'd consider that the "puppet governments" would be more to be pitied than anything else if they weren't playing such a dangerous game. Yes, I think that the Jihadists ideology is sick. I also think that the US/UK tag team are equally twisted and it's the innocent people who are caught between both sides that have to pay in lives and limbs. Bush and Blair are way out of their respective depths despite the bully boy bravado.

Hey Steve,
Yes it is, as is the Brian Capps album that just came out. Plenty of skele-action on there too. Wish I could get over to see the Springfield tour but airfares are exhorbitant.
Maybe you could provide some alternate news sites here so people, including me, can follow those up.

Please note that I mentioned the Morells BEFORE your post. Great minds think alike sometimes. Just as sometimes good guys don't wear white.

Anyways, there's a good story about the tBig Noise from Springfield tour at

http://www.modernguitars.com/archives/000819.html

Tickets at the few venues I checked at are $10 U.S.

I live in Montana which might as well, for tour purposes, be in Scotland.

Feel free to post the link or anything else I've written here on your main board.

Hi Steve

Thanks for the info. Actually I meant alternative news sites but this is good too and has been duly added to the Springfield post.

You're in Montana? Whereabouts??

I see what you mean about the tour but as I understand it, shows will be added so maybe when they head toward Portland or something?

Anyway, send me your actual e-dress to lhnbt@hotmail.com and we can correspond outwith this comment box situation...

I forgot to mention, I had started this Springfield thing last night but hadn't got to finishing the Domino Kings and Bel Airs reviews. It was something of a coincidence to be sure. Possibly to the extent of it being the soundtrack to our, er, "discussion".
