Feathered Apple have collected the works of Swiss Punk combo The Bastards onto one footlong platter entitled “Schizo Terrorist”. A 9 song legacy complete with that customary excellent liner note information that we’ve come to expect from this imprint. I’d never heard any of this stuff before but it certainly puts a lot of what was passed as punk rock here into perspective. As time goes on, the case is made that Europe was awash with great music at the time. The UK serves as the focus but I’m sure we haven’t heard the half of what is actually out there. Thanks to guys like Rolf we’re able to find out. The story of The Bastards is really quite incredible and you have to read it for yourself, you couldn’t make this stuff up. As with many of the sounds from territories outwith the UK, the sound didn’t conform to the brit template. It has traces of Australian and American music clearly founded in rock’n’roll or sixties beat. Here’s one case where it’s perfectly legitimate to let The Bastards grind you down.
Distro in the UK by F-Minor, it’s also available here from Volcanic Tongue.

Dear Lindsay,

Thanks a MILL. for the very nice plug. I'm sure that it will help THE BASTARDS to get some attention =something they failed to archive during the 70s, while they were only playing a few local gigs around their hometown of Geneva.

SANDRO SURSOCK said that THE BASTARDS were possibly going to play some gig in England in the near future, but we don't know of any details yet.

THE BASTARDS reunion gig from a few months ago was fantastic. They were the ONLY old Swiss Punk band from the whole festival to play their music in an authentic way (like they did in 1977/1978.) THE YODLER KILLERS reunion gig was also fantastic, but unfortnately a bit short.

I'm currently working on a great LP of mostly unreleased (and never before heard) quality tracks from 1965-1967 around the early bands behind GARY THAIN (!), that could eventually become a small hit for my label, and for the 60s beat/garage/freakbeat music scene in general. We are planing to release this LP in a few months!!

I'm also planing to do a great live CD of the 2nd gig by THE REDNECKS soon (=ex BASTARDS, and JACK & THE RIPPERS), that will contain some great 1978 PuNk tracks on it too (including great coverversions of THE RAMONES, HEARTBREAKERS, THE BOYS etc.)

Best, Rolf
