So, things are still unravelling here. Reports may be sketchy for the next couple of days. No, I won't be at The Stooges "doing" Funhouse tonight in London. I find the whole concept somewhat reprehensible. I wonder if The Ramones would have performed "Ramones" or "Leave Home" and like to think not. Anyway, they must be getting quite a pot of green together for that old age so that's good I guess...

The 'concept' of the gig is rather Nick Hornsby, but it's still The Stooges!

Whatever banner it is that lets me see the Stooges (short of promoting heroin sales in schools) is a Good Thing.

I really enjoyed the recent DVD of them in Detroit, and I'm not going to spend a weekend in a muddy field to see them from 100 yards away at a 'festival'.

So this is it.

Lindsay, I don't agree or disagree with you, on the contrary (lol).
I don't like those old guys reunions either, but this time they were the Stooges and I wanted to saw them once in my life - I did last year in Paris, and it brought me back in 1973 when i played their albums all day long, same pleasure. One time is ok, I didn't go to see the Stooges in 2005.

Howard Wall? THE Howard Wall?

Linday, you're a miserable auld whatsit, but we love you!!!

I hate the corporate angle, also, almost as much as your good self ...

Anyhoo, watching the audience is gonna be almost as much fun as the band themselves!! Shame that Rock Action isn't the tub thumper he once was ...

its "nostalgia" maybe, but so what ?, its their songs and theyre fucking great and they can still do them well, if I wasnt so skint I'd be down to see them - its good to see the Ashetons getting on stage and getting paid for something that even now is pretty far removed from the mainstream - who would've thought it 30 years ago ?

if it entertains the people who've been listening to it for years but never got a chance to see them its worth it, if it convinces some young whippersnapper that they can use a guitar to make their own noise and still get an audience rather than apeing whoever happens to be selling a million right now, then its worth it, if it lets Mike Watt live out everyfans dream of being a stooge for the day then its worth it - I really cant see a downside
personally I'd rather hear all new stuff than all old stuff from any band, but if youre gonna do all old stuff whats better to hear than Funhouse ?
If theyre still doing it in a years time I'd be dissapointed in them, but as a one off - why not ?

It's good to stir up the pot.

All of these FOR points are valid but I still don't care for it. Now if they came out and thundered through RAW POWER, that'd be The Stooges. Williamson might not want to do it or whatever but there's still those songs too. I feel no remorse, what can I tell ya? Everybody says that the shows are great. If I went along that might change so better for everybody that I grumble from afar.

I figure Johnny would have rather liked the idea of doin' just "Ramones" or "Leave Home" if it ment gettin' good pay for only 30 minutes work...

Nope, it would have to be both in one night, with an intermission.

as much as I'd rather be seeing em in london right now .....

Come into The Stooge's funhouse and watch them play '1969', 'I want to be your dog', and 'TV Eye'.

No tinnitus, just a lack of upper range hearing this morning! As a mate said to me last nite, "it seems like everybody I've ever met is here", and those assholes at the Hammersmith fart crap beer suck Apollo (or whatever) sure packed everybody in like sardines, and din't turn the air con on until the encore, and shut the bar early ... But, hey, you wanna know if they were any good, rite? Well, Rock Action managed to get through a whole set, but 30 years fishing and drinking have sure taken the toll on his once awesome drumming - I mean, it's like watching a bloke learning to play again, at times! No bad thing, obviously, but he could use a liddle more motor control! A man named Fat Ron made me deaf, despite living in his mom's basement for three decades! How about that! He was great, although he weren't loud enuff, and shoula used a Strat, like on the rekkids, to get a bigger killer tone ... Ig got his cock out, did all the same "I know every fucking one of you!" riff with the house lights up, and generally behaved like an Nietzschian condom (super skinny) stuffed with walnuts/your fave bad & mad relative (delete as applicable), and Mike Watt gurned and thundered ... My pick of the nite had to be Dirt, which was heavy as all hell (if you believe we're going there, even!), and Steve M's sax blurt on Funhouse ... Loadsa peeps were moaning about his sax playing, but I thought he was triffic, everything from full-on skronk to Big Jay McNeely-style blurt & honk ... At one point, a magic gig moment occured, when a massive, shirtless & incredibly sweaty fat bloke seemingly appeared from UNDER the mosh pit, and kind of swam to the back of the hall, like Moby fucking Dick (and the other Moby IS a fucking dick), to the amazement of all ... Yeah, it was great, but I dunno how many more of these reunions I can stand!!! Makes me feel old, but not as ancient-brained as the middle-aged former hippies on the Tube on the way home, handing round a copy of Mojo, and talking about how the new Eric Crapton album is "a bit samey" - fuck, he should've been shot in the back of the head after he left the Yardbirds! Suddenly, everything makes a strange kind of sense, and coffee is required ...

The gig was awesome, sheer joyous rock&roll.

The bloody stuff (diesel) is the equivalent of $8 a gallon here!
